Political analyst Saeed al-Badri has warned Iraq against becoming too dependent on the United States, saying the country should not allow Washington to dominate its economy or influence its key decisions.
Al-Badri said that the United States is currently facing challenges and is not as strong as it once was. Because of this, he believes the Iraqi government should avoid giving in to policies that the US administration wants to push inside Iraq.
He argued that previous Iraqi governments paid a heavy price for following American demands and accepting policies promoted by US officials and envoys. According to him, Baghdad now has a chance to take a stronger position and deal with Washington on more equal terms.
Al-Badri also claimed that the US administration is trying to increase its influence over Iraq by interfering in government affairs and sending envoys to advance American interests. He said this influence is especially visible in economic matters, where a number of decisions have been made that he believes serve US interests more than Iraq’s.
He stressed that Iraq should focus on protecting its national interests, strengthening its independence, and making economic decisions based on what benefits the Iraqi people rather than outside powers.
