Member of Parliament Ibtisam al-Hilali said the planned questioning of the head of Iraq’s National Investment Commission is expected to take significant time in Parliament because of the large number of issues and documents involved.
Speaking about the upcoming session, al-Hilali explained that the questioning request, submitted by Adel al-Rikabi, is based on extensive information and proposals that lawmakers intend to examine thoroughly.
She described the move as an important step toward strengthening Parliament’s oversight role during the current legislative session, noting that lawmakers are seeking a detailed review of files related to the Commission’s performance and activities.
Al-Hilali also said that discussions during next Thursday’s parliamentary session will extend beyond the questioning process. According to her, lawmakers will focus on supporting government efforts to combat corruption and address several key public concerns.
Among the issues expected to be discussed are employment opportunities for graduates, payment of farmers’ financial dues, the situation of contract and daily wage workers, and developments related to the country’s food security program.
The upcoming parliamentary session is scheduled to include three main agenda items. These are the swearing-in of several new members of parliament, the questioning of the head of the National Investment Commission, and a broader discussion of political, economic, and public service issues.
The session is being closely watched as lawmakers seek to increase oversight of government institutions while addressing a number of economic and social challenges facing the country.
