The altcoin market is facing renewed pressure as liquidity remains limited and investors continue to favor Bitcoin over smaller cryptocurrencies.

Crypto analyst Darkfost said that nearly 40% of altcoins are currently trading close to their all-time lows, highlighting the challenges many projects face in attracting capital during a period of weak market demand.

According to Darkfost, the situation became even more severe when Bitcoin briefly fell below $60,000 in late June, pushing the percentage of altcoins near record lows to around 45%. He believes this reflects how vulnerable many smaller tokens remain when liquidity tightens and investors focus on more established assets.

One of the biggest factors behind the weakness is the rapid growth in the number of cryptocurrencies entering the market. Darkfost noted that millions of digital assets now exist, with tens of thousands of new tokens being created every day. As a result, available investment capital is spread across a much larger pool of assets than in previous market cycles.

This oversupply has made it increasingly difficult for many projects to maintain price support. Without fresh inflows of capital, weaker tokens often struggle to attract buyers and can remain under pressure for extended periods.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin continues to dominate the market. According to data from CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin dominance stands at roughly 58%, meaning the largest cryptocurrency still accounts for the majority of the market’s value.

The long-anticipated “altseason”—a period when altcoins significantly outperform Bitcoin—has yet to materialize in 2026. Analysts point to several reasons, including Bitcoin’s continued market leadership, strong investor interest in Bitcoin-focused investment products, and limited capital flowing into smaller digital assets.

Not everyone is bearish on altcoins, however. Crypto analyst MikybullCrypto has argued that the altcoin dominance chart is showing encouraging signs after breaking above a long-term trendline. Such a move can sometimes signal that investors are beginning to rotate capital from Bitcoin into the broader crypto market.

Still, analysts caution that one positive chart pattern alone does not confirm a full altcoin rally. Market indicators continue to show mixed conditions, with many altcoins still underperforming compared to Bitcoin.

Investor sentiment also remains weak. The widely followed Crypto Fear and Greed Index is currently in the fear zone, suggesting that traders remain cautious despite occasional signs of recovery.

For now, the altcoin market appears divided. Some higher-quality projects may continue attracting investment, while many smaller and less-established tokens remain under pressure. Until liquidity improves and investor confidence returns, analysts expect the market to remain highly selective, with Bitcoin continuing to hold a dominant position. Bitcoin
