Ziad Ali Fadel, the minister of electricity, made the announcement on Wednesday that the first phase of smart transformation, which is expected to include 500,000 subscribers, will include four governorates. He also said that 75 percent of the government will continue to support electricity tariffs.
“The ministry signed important contracts that will be a major turning point in the field of providing electrical energy to citizens,” Fadel stated to the official agency, which was followed by “dinaropinions.com,” indicating that “the smart transformation contracts that the ministry decided to study and put forward for qualification since the formation of the government.”
“We succeeded in signing smart transformation service contracts in the governorates of Wasit, Kirkuk, Diyala, and Anbar, which is considered the first phase,” he continued, “The smart transformation is one of the government program projects that received great support from the central government and the Iraqi Council of Representatives.”
“The first phase may include achieving 500,000 subscribers to the transition to digital reading and smart systems for energy supply,” he continued, “the ministry will witness the signing of contracts for Basra, Maysan, and Baghdad next week.”
“The main important point in this project is that the electricity tariff card is still the same electricity tariff supported by the government at a support rate of 75 percent, meaning that the government pays 75 percent of the list and the citizen pays 25 percent of the energy cost,” he explained. “The advantage of the project is the high equipment of the areas with the 24-hour project, and it will witness periodic maintenance quickly and urgently.”
“We seek to improve the service without imposing any burdens on the citizen,” he stated, noting that “we are in the first phase of this project” and “we will move successively to the second, third, and fourth phases, in which more than 6 million citizens will be involved.”
He thanked “all the supporting parties, including the Prime Minister, members of the House of Representatives, general managers in the Ministry of Electricity, and ministry cadres for the success of the first phase of the smart transformation contract” and urged citizens to “cooperate and coordinate with the ministry for the purpose of making this project a success.”
The signing of contracts for smart grid transformation projects in the central and northern regions was facilitated by the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel. He also highlighted the development of an integrated plan for the smart grid transformation based on a clear vision to radically modernize the electricity sector.
