Al-Moussawi: Huge sums of money are being spent to influence voters in Baghdad and the liberated provinces.

Baghdad — MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi, from the Badr parliamentary bloc, has raised concerns over the rising role of money in political campaigns, particularly in Baghdad and several liberated governorates like Nineveh and Anbar.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Moussawi said, “Many candidates are trying to sway voters with promises and financial assistance, taking advantage of people’s difficult living conditions. These practices encourage vote buying and turn elections into a contest of money rather than ideas or national programs.”

He added, “Such methods damage the integrity of elections and reduce citizens’ trust in the democratic process and the institutions responsible for running it.”

Al-Moussawi urged oversight bodies and the Independent High Electoral Commission to act firmly to curb these practices and protect the voters’ true will.
