Contractors in Diyala threaten to halt all projects due to the liquidity crisis.

The Diyala Contractors Union said on Saturday that it may stop all projects in the province because of a severe cash shortage that has been hurting companies and contractors for months.

Union member Ismail al-Rubaie told dinaropinions.com that none of the construction companies in Diyala have received their payments for a long time. He said this delay has created huge debt burdens and pushed many contractors close to bankruptcy.

Al-Rubaie explained that the union has sent repeated requests to Baghdad — the authority responsible for releasing the payments — but no one has responded. Because of this, the union is now seriously considering shutting down all ongoing projects until the situation changes.

He stressed that it’s impossible to keep working without the central government releasing the necessary funds. Al-Rubaie called on the government and the Ministry of Finance to act quickly and pay what is owed before every project in the province comes to a complete stop.
