Oil prices moved higher early Monday after news broke that the United States stopped an oil tanker near Venezuela over the weekend.
The interception happened in international waters, and markets reacted fast.
Brent crude went up 44 cents, rising about 0.7%, to $60.91 a barrel.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) also climbed 40 cents, gaining nearly 0.7%, to $56.92 a barrel.
The jump shows how quickly oil prices respond to geopolitical tension, especially when it involves shipping routes and major oil-producing regions.
