The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday that it carried out a direct attack on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz using a drone.
In a statement reviewed by dinaropinions.com, the IRGC said its naval forces targeted a tanker named “Prima” early in the morning with what it described as a suicide drone. According to the statement, the strike hit the vessel directly.
The group said the attack happened after the tanker allegedly ignored repeated warnings from maritime authorities about restrictions on passing through the strait and the unsafe conditions for navigation during the current situation.
Tensions in the region have been rising, and the IRGC says it has increased monitoring of ships moving through the strategic waterway.
