Political analyst Haitham al-Khazali said on Tuesday that talks between the United States and the Iran are very unlikely under the current situation. He described recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump as a “political maneuver” rather than a serious move toward negotiations.
Al-Khazali said Trump’s statement about being ready for direct talks is mainly for media and political purposes. He pointed out that Iran has clearly denied making any request to return to negotiations at this time.
He added that with the growing conflict and ongoing confrontations — directly and indirectly — between the U.S. and Israel on one side, and Iran and what he called the “Resistance Front” on the other, there is little chance for dialogue right now. In his view, the current military escalation makes any diplomatic breakthrough highly unlikely.
Al-Khazali also warned that the impact of this war would not stay limited to one area. He said the consequences could strongly affect both the Middle East and Europe, leaving the situation unpredictable and far from diplomatic solutions.
Last Sunday, Trump said that Iran’s new leaders wanted to talk and that he had agreed. However, officials in Tehran denied that they are currently seeking renewed dialogue.
