Abbas Sarout, a former member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, said Sunday that the United States is facing a major financial and economic burden because of the war with Iran.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Sarout said international reports suggest the war is costing United States more than $1 billion per day, though he believes the real cost could be even higher.

He explained that the impact of the conflict will not be limited to military spending. According to Sarout, the war could bring three major consequences in the short, medium, and long term. One of the most important effects, he said, will be pressure on energy supplies, which are a key part of the U.S. economy, along with broader impacts on global markets and stock exchanges.

Sarout also said that American and allied interests in the region have become targets, which could create wider economic and political consequences. He stressed that the costs for Washington will likely continue even after the war ends.

He added that repeated wars have historically drained U.S. resources and placed pressure on its economy, arguing that ongoing conflicts in the region continue to create financial and political challenges for the United States.
