Ali Saber al-Kinani said on Sunday that he has submitted a formal request to the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq to close the United States Embassy in Baghdad and cancel the security agreement with United States.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Kinani said the United States is following what he described as a policy of aggression against the Iraqi people and their official security institutions. He argued that violations of national sovereignty under the cover of existing agreements are unacceptable.

He added that the presence of U.S. forces and the embassy in Baghdad now represents a direct threat to the country’s security and stability.

Al-Kinani also claimed that the embassy has gone beyond its diplomatic role and has become a center for interference in Iraq’s internal affairs, which he said requires decisive parliamentary action to end what he called an illegitimate presence.

According to al-Kinani, canceling the security agreement with Washington would help prevent further attacks targeting the Popular Mobilization Forces and other security forces. He added that the request has the support of several political forces within parliament.

He called on the Speaker of Parliament to place the issue on the agenda as soon as possible, saying it is necessary to restore the state’s authority and ensure full sovereignty over Iraqi territory.
