Al-Moussawi: Procrastination in forming a government could drag the central bank into international sanctions.

Mukhtar al-Moussawi, a member of parliament from the Badr Organization bloc, said on Sunday that the current one-on-one meetings between leaders of the Coordination Framework are “useless.”

He said these limited talks will not lead to real results when it comes to choosing the next prime minister. According to him, what’s needed now is a full meeting that includes all parties within the Framework to agree on one clear decision and end the political deadlock.

Al-Moussawi stressed that leaders must understand how serious the situation is and settle the prime minister issue before next Wednesday. He warned that any delay could put the Central Bank of Iraq at risk of tough international sanctions. If that happens, he said, it would hurt the country’s economy and directly affect people’s daily lives.

Right now, political talks inside the Coordination Framework are moving fast as leaders try to reach a final agreement. This comes at a time when Iraq is already dealing with economic pressure and ongoing security challenges.
