MP Ahmed Shaheed said on Tuesday that it’s time to stop delaying and finally pass the Popular Mobilization Forces law.
He made it clear that approving this law isn’t just another task for Parliament — it’s a responsibility they owe to the fighters who gave their lives defending the country.
Shaheed said the ongoing attacks on the Popular Mobilization Forces make it even more urgent to act. He believes political leaders need to come together and move quickly to protect the rights of these fighters. According to him, passing the law is the least the country can do for those who sacrificed so much.
He also pointed out that these forces are still being targeted again and again, and without proper legal protection, they remain exposed. That’s why he says they need clear laws that fully support and protect them.
Shaheed warned that if delays continue, there will be a strong response inside Parliament. He stressed that honoring the fallen fighters should come before political disagreements, and that the next phase must include real action to give these people the recognition and protection they deserve.
