Ayed Al-Hilali, a member of the Al-Fatah Alliance, acknowledged that the current crisis has worsened due to the Sunni blocs’ inability to come to a consensus on a coordination framework for a particular candidate. He noted that there is disagreement over support for House of Representatives presidential candidates.
After the Sunni blocs failed to achieve a consensus on a single presidential candidate, Al-Hilali stated, “The process of changing the candidates for the position of Speaker of Parliament may be the only way out of the current crisis.”
He said, “The problem that the coordination framework suffers from is the fragmentation that exists within it and the failure of its bloc to agree on a specific party in order to support it and bring it to the seat of the Speaker of Parliament and thus resolve the current crisis.”
He said, “There is division, and this matter made some blocs support a Sunni party and others support another party. The lack of agreement and the lack of decision-making unity within the Shiite house increased the severity of the current crisis.” A resolution would have been reached and one of the candidates would have been appointed to the “Presidential” seat if the agreement had been included inside the framework.
