Al-Sudani chairs a meeting regarding the unified treasury account and the electronic payment system

On Sunday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani presided over a meeting to discuss the finalization of the unified treasury account, as well as the progress of the electronic payment system and electronic point of sale (POS) card payments. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank, the Head of the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau, a number of advisors, and the general managers of several government banks. A statement from Al-Sudani’s office confirmed the same.

The following statement was made, “During the meeting, a presentation was given on the progress of the unified treasury account implementation, the dissemination of the electronic card payment system, and the discussion of challenges faced by public and private sector institutions and electronic payment companies.”

During the review, the facilities and incentives available to citizens and employers were discussed with the aim of encouraging progress. His Excellency emphasized the importance of prioritizing the government sector’s goal and identifying entities that are lagging behind. The discussion also covered the progress rates and necessary requirements for completion.

During the meeting, the report was approved with a set of recommendations and will be presented to the Council of Ministers.

Al-Sudani instructed the activation of the Payments Council’s tasks at the Central Bank and emphasized submitting a final report on achievements to the Council of Ministers.

The Prime Minister has instructed all ministries to comply with the fourth paragraph of Cabinet Resolution (3581 of 2023) to complete the unified treasury account. The statement also emphasizes the need to expedite the formation of committees and analyze non-active bank accounts for each ministry within one month.
