Foreign Minister: We do not want to create a chaotic situation in relations with Washington

The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, confirmed that Iraq does not want to create chaos in relations with the United States.

Hussein stated that Iraq has the authority to decide if American forces should be present, stressing that the Iraqi government invited the international coalition.

Hussein stated they don’t want to create chaos in their relations with Washington. He believes that before negotiations begin for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, they need to prepare the interior. Once the negotiations are completed, they will make a decision about whether to withdraw or schedule the withdrawal.

He stated that Baghdad had assured Washington that the Iraqi government was “committed to calm” and that “the recent events are unacceptable” due to attacks and counterattacks.

Hussein stated that attacks on military bases should be addressed by both parties. The Prime Minister is constantly working to communicate with all parties in order to achieve calm.

“He also acknowledged that the situation in the region had changed after the war in Gaza, and that there was an overlap of national and regional issues. He explained that the decision to go to war was determined by the constitution and the law, and that there was no decision outside of the state. He emphasized that the decision to go to war was dangerous and that they were not advocates of war, as Iraq needed security and stability.”

Hussein emphasized that no party, whether internal or external, is allowed to disrupt the security situation in Iraq.
