Iraq awards Shanghai Electric to build a sea water desalination plant

Shanghai Electric, a Chinese state-owned company, has been awarded a contract by the Baghdad government to construct a seawater desalination plant in Southern Basra City. This move aims to combat severe water scarcity in the region. The agreement also includes the development of a hydroelectric plant complex along with the comprehensive desalination plant.

Deputy Governor Mohammed Al-Tamimi held discussions with representatives of Shanghai Electric in Baghdad. He emphasized the urgent need to address the critical water shortage in the region. The project focuses on utilizing advanced desalination technologies and hydroelectric power generation. It promises to deliver potable water and also contribute to environmental sustainability.

This joint effort represents a significant step forward in international partnerships aimed at addressing urgent global challenges. If successful, the project could serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives around the world, providing practical solutions for sustainable water management in the midst of increasing water crises.
