Although the USA produces less than 2% of the world’s rice, it exports around 5% of the global rice exports, making it the fifth largest exporter. Therefore, rice exports are crucial to the US rice industry, with approximately 40-45% of the crop being exported every year.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, Iraq was the eighth-largest importer of American rice.
The Ministry announced that for the year 2022-2023, the largest importer of American rice was the country with 638.1 thousand tons, followed by Central America in second place with 533.3 thousand tons, and Haiti in third place with 421.0 thousand tons. Japan was the fourth largest importer with 293.0 thousand tons, while Canada came in fifth with 250.7 thousand tons.
South Colombia was ranked sixth in the world for its production of coffee with 136,000 tons. South Korea was ranked seventh with 132,000 tons, followed by Iraq in eighth place with 111.3 thousand tons. Saudi Arabia came in ninth place with 100.7 thousand tons and Venezuela took the tenth spot with 82.4 thousand tons. Jordan ranked 11th with 64.8 thousand tons, Taiwan ranked 12th with 56.1 thousand tons, the Dominican Republic ranked 13th with 25.9 thousand tons, and the United Kingdom ranked 14th with 24.9 thousand tons.
