A credible source from the government disclosed on Tuesday that the United States President, Joe Biden, has requested the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, to mediate with Iran to prevent any escalation of the fighting that has been occurring for the past ten days between Israel and the Hamas movement.

The source said Biden appreciated Baghdad’s official role in calming the current crisis. He also mentioned playing a mediation role with Iran to help reduce tensions.

Al-Sudani expressed his conviction of the necessity of working towards containment and non-escalation, provided that there is a ceasefire and the creation of humanitarian corridors to provide relief to the people in Gaza.

The White House announced on Tuesday that President Joe Biden spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to de-escalate the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The Sudanese Media Office released a statement stating that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received a phone call from the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden. During the call, they discussed the ongoing developments in the Palestinian territories and emphasized the importance of mobilizing efforts and joint work to support sustainable regional stability. They also discussed measures to strengthen the bilateral partnership between Iraq and the United States of America in accordance with the strategic framework agreement between the two countries. The statement was received by the Agency.

During the call, both sides emphasized the importance of containing the conflict and preventing its expansion to target civilians, as well as regional and global peace and stability.

The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s unwavering stance on the ongoing situation in Gaza. He emphasized the crucial need for opening humanitarian corridors to facilitate the delivery of the essential supplies that the people of the Gaza Strip desperately require. As they are currently facing the atrocities of war and an unjust siege, it is of utmost importance to act with urgency and compassion in providing them with the necessary aid.

According to the statement, Al-Sudani expressed that the ongoing aggression against Gaza causes anger among people in the region and worldwide.

Iran’s leader, Ali Khamenei, stated on Tuesday that his country “must respond to the events in Gaza.”
