Legal: Amending the constitution depends on political consensus

Thursday, egal expert Ahmed Shaheed Al-Shammari stated that political consensus is required before amending the constitution’s articles and paragraphs.

“It is very difficult to change the articles and paragraphs of the constitution without making political understandings,” Al-Shammari stated, “indicating that demands to amend the articles of the constitution at the present time are being rejected by many blocs.”

He went on to say that “The Constitution required that it be amended in accordance with Article 142 of the Constitution within the House of Representatives,” pointing out that “There are many articles in the Constitution that need to be amended and redrafted again.”
