The brand-new Isomerization Unit at the Basra Refinery has been officially opened by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani. The unit is capable of producing premium gasoline at a rate of 11,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The project will save the state treasury approximately $350 million annually by increasing premium gasoline production by 1,300 cubic meters per day (1.3 million liters per day) and decreasing imports by the same amount.
It follows the recent commissioning of the 70,000 bpd Fourth Refinery Unit in Basra.
The Japan’s JGC Residue Catalytic Cracking project, which has a 55,000 bpd capacity and converts oil residues into white products meeting Euro 5 standards, is one of the upcoming projects.
