On Thursday, Hussein Talib, Director General of the Oil Products Distribution Company, announced that there has been a significant increase in fuel refueling via electronic payment cards.
Talib stated that the company had introduced an electronic payment service in April of last year and gradually started implementing it in fuel-filling stations throughout Baghdad and other governorates. He noted that sales made through electronic cards accounted for 35% of the total sales in April 2020, reaching one million dinars. By November of the same year, the sales had increased to over 350 million dinars, indicating the experiment’s success.
Talib announced that the first quarter of this year will see the complete transition to electronic payments throughout Iraq. The company has divided the governorates into electronic payment companies approved by the Central Bank.
Talib urged citizens to obtain electronic payment cards to experience its benefits.
