On Monday, a political source inside the Azm Alliance said that the Sunni parties could not agree upon a nominee to lead the House of Representatives.

The issue “left the Sunni circle and headed into the space of the rest of the political blocs, especially the coordination framework,” the source said, adding that “the Sunni parties failed to reach an agreement to choose a new speaker of the House of Representatives to succeed the sacked president, Muhammad Al-Halbousi.”

He clarified, “Everyone will go directly to Parliament to present candidates to be voted on directly without any agreement on any candidate.”

A lack of agreement about the new candidate for the presidency had earlier caused the House of Representatives to postpone the election process until further notice. Muhammad al-Halbousi had been removed as president.
