Ripple is expanding its focus on artificial intelligence as it works to bring AI-powered payments to the XRP Ledger using XRP and its stablecoin, RLUSD.

The company recently introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a toolkit designed to help developers build applications where AI agents can send, receive, and manage payments automatically. The system supports payments through XRP and RLUSD using the x402 payment standard.

According to Ripple, AI agents are increasingly being used to pay for services, access computing resources, settle invoices, and complete transactions with little or no human involvement. The new toolkit is intended to make these types of automated financial activities easier to build and deploy.

The package includes tools that allow developers to create wallets, check balances, track transactions, and send payments directly through the XRP Ledger. It also provides access to resources that can help developers experiment with AI-driven financial applications.

Ripple is also investing internally in artificial intelligence. The company is currently hiring a Staff Software Engineer focused on generative AI platforms. The role involves building systems for AI agents, including security controls, memory management, orchestration tools, and performance evaluation systems.

The move suggests Ripple is not only providing AI payment tools for outside developers but is also developing its own AI capabilities behind the scenes.

The company believes XRP and RLUSD could play an important role in the growing market for machine-to-machine payments. XRP offers fast transaction settlement and low fees, while RLUSD provides a stable dollar-based option for payments that require less price volatility.

However, Ripple faces strong competition. USDC currently dominates much of the activity using the x402 payment standard, with millions of transactions already processed. As a result, Ripple’s success will depend on whether developers choose the XRP Ledger for real-world AI payment applications.

While AI-powered payments create a new use case for XRP and RLUSD, long-term adoption will depend on developer interest, user demand, regulation, and overall market conditions.

For now, Ripple is positioning itself at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital payments, and blockchain technology as the industry explores how autonomous software agents may handle transactions in the future.
