Member of Parliament Mohammed Hadi said that corruption remains the biggest reason behind many of Iraq’s ongoing problems, warning that it continues to damage state institutions and weaken the country’s development.

According to Hadi, corruption drains public funds, weakens essential services such as education and healthcare, and discourages foreign investors from bringing money into the country because of concerns about transparency and financial security.

He stressed that the most effective way to fight corruption is through strict enforcement of the law and holding those responsible accountable for their actions, regardless of their position or influence.

Hadi also praised recent government efforts aimed at tackling corruption. He described the reported arrests of several high-profile figures accused of corruption as a positive step toward reducing the problem and restoring confidence in state institutions.

The MP said that corruption has spread across many sectors and government bodies, making it one of the country’s most serious challenges. In his view, stronger oversight and accountability are necessary if Iraq is to improve public services and strengthen its economy.

His comments came as other lawmakers also voiced support for anti-corruption measures. MP Qusay Abbas stated that the Iraqi Parliament fully supports legal actions taken by the government, the Integrity Commission, and the judiciary against individuals accused of misusing public funds.

Abbas emphasized that the law should be applied fairly to everyone and that anyone found guilty of corruption should face justice, regardless of their rank, political position, or connections.

The statements reflect growing calls for stronger action against corruption as Iraq continues efforts to improve governance, protect public resources, and rebuild trust in state institutions. investment
