Iraq and Turkey have taken new steps to strengthen economic ties, with Iraqi officials holding separate meetings this week with the Turkish ambassador and a delegation of Turkish business leaders to discuss investment and trade opportunities.
According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi met with Anil Bora Inan and representatives of Turkish companies participating in the Iraqi-Turkish Business Council.
During the meeting, Al-Zaidi highlighted several major investment opportunities available to Turkish companies. These included the Development Road Project, the Grand Al Faw Port, hospital and airport management projects, as well as opportunities in the energy and water sectors.
The Prime Minister also directed government agencies to simplify visa procedures for Turkish businesspeople and provide additional support aimed at encouraging foreign investment and maintaining investment momentum in Iraq.
For his part, Ambassador Inan reaffirmed Turkey’s interest in expanding cooperation with Iraq across a wide range of sectors. Representatives of Turkish companies expressed their readiness to launch new investment projects and increase their presence in the Iraqi market.
In a separate meeting, Iraqi Trade Minister Mustafa Nizar Jumaa met with the Turkish ambassador and a group of Turkish businessmen and traders to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
Jumaa emphasized the strong historical and economic ties between Iraq and Turkey, noting that the Iraqi government is committed to creating a more attractive investment environment and encouraging partnerships with experienced international companies, particularly from Turkey.
Discussions focused on expanding cooperation beyond traditional trade activities to include infrastructure development, transportation, investment, energy, healthcare, food industries, port operations, and water desalination projects.
Both sides also explored ways to benefit from Turkish expertise in key sectors while increasing the participation of Turkish companies in Iraq’s growing market.
The meetings reflect ongoing efforts by Baghdad and Ankara to deepen economic cooperation and attract new investment as Iraq seeks to accelerate development projects and diversify its economy.
