Iraqi MP Qusay al-Shabaki has accused the United States of increasing its influence over Iraq’s internal affairs, claiming that Washington is attempting to affect some of the country’s sovereign decisions through political pressure.
Speaking on Saturday, al-Shabaki said that U.S. involvement in Iraqi affairs has grown in recent years and alleged that pressure is being applied to certain political groups to advance policies that align with American interests.
He stressed the importance of protecting Iraq’s independent decision-making process and ensuring that national policies are determined according to the country’s interests rather than external influence.
Al-Shabaki argued that such actions represent political pressure aimed at shaping Iraq’s security, economic, and foreign policy choices. He also claimed that these efforts could affect Iraq’s relations with regional and international partners.
The lawmaker called for stronger measures to safeguard Iraq’s sovereignty and prevent foreign interference in domestic political affairs.
His comments follow similar criticism from Mukhtar Mahmoud, who previously accused the United States of violating Iraqi sovereignty and criticized past U.S. military actions in the region.
