Releases from Mosul Dam into the Tigris River have increased to 650 cubic meters per second, up from 450 cubic meters per second, informed sources confirmed on Sunday. The increase comes as more water flows into Iraq from Turkey and the dam’s water storage continues to rise.
The sources told dinaropinions.com that the higher releases are linked to improved water inflows from Turkey and increased storage levels at the dam. They explained that releases are being adjusted according to the latest water data and available supplies.
They also warned that water levels in the Tigris River are expected to rise noticeably in the coming hours, especially in Nineveh and Salah al-Din governorates, with the increase extending toward Samarra Dam.
The sources added that decisions to increase or reduce water releases are made by the Ministry of Water Resources based on specific calculations. These decisions depend on the amount of incoming water, the dam’s storage levels, and the country’s actual water needs.
