MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi said on Sunday that Iraq’s 2027 budget draft is expected to reach the Parliamentary Finance Committee this week for discussion. He warned that the budget will face seven major challenges as the country continues to deal with financial and economic difficulties.
Al-Moussawi told dinaropinions.com that the draft will be sent by the Council of Ministers to the Finance Committee, where lawmakers will review its articles in detail.
He said the main issues include updating the dollar exchange rate, setting the price of oil, determining the size of the operating budget, addressing the rights of provinces, and resolving employment issues involving thousands of workers. Protecting the rights of contract workers is also expected to be a major point of discussion.
Al-Moussawi explained that the budget will face lengthy debates because of Iraq’s current financial and economic crisis. He added that upcoming discussions will reveal more details about the difficult decisions lawmakers must consider.
He stressed that there is broad agreement on the need to protect the rights of different groups in society and ensure that the 2027 budget addresses their needs during the coming period.
