TotalEnergies has given the Scottish consulting and engineering firm Wood a new $46 million, three-year contract in Iraq.

The first phase of the Associated Gas Upstream Project, which is a component of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) in Southern Iraq, will benefit from Wood’s front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed design, support for procurement, construction, and commissioning assistance, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

In addition to the construction of a seawater treatment unit and a 1GW solar power plant, the GGIP also includes the recovery of gas that is currently flared in the Basra region for use by power generation facilities.

According to Shaun Dewar, Wood’s Senior Vice President of Operations for the Middle East and Africa:

“This venture will work on natural manageability through outflows decrease endeavors. Wood will continue to invest in Basra region employment and skill development as part of this agreement.”

100 new positions will be created as a result of the contract being delivered by Wood’s teams in Basra and Dubai. In Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, Wood currently employs over 1,300 people.
