Salem Kitan, the representative of the Diyala Governorate, confirmed today, Friday, that the crisis in forming the local government in Diyala has had a negative impact on service projects, as evidenced by the disbursement of the governorate’s budget.
“There has been a political deadlock for more than seven months in Diyala Governorate, as the governorate is still without a provincial council and the council’s sessions have not been held despite the need to manage the governorate’s affairs,” Ketan stated in an interview.
“The governorate’s situation has been affected by the current blockage, as the budget is still the same and has not been spent on governorate projects, despite the urgent need to continue service work,” he added.
He mentioned that “there is popular discontent with the continuation of the political blocs in this manner and the failure to resolve the crisis of forming the local government” and that “moves to resolve the issue of the provincial council and ensure the end of the current deadlock in the coming days” were being made. Additionally, he mentioned that “there are moves to resolve the issue of the provincial council.”
