In 2021 the Service of Arranging’s Focal Measurable Association (CSO) in organization with the Unified Countries Improvement Program (UNDP) and with subsidizing from the US Office for Worldwide Turn of events (USAID) has led a concentrate on Miniature, Little, and Medium-Ventures (MSMEs) in Iraq.
The three governorates of Baghdad, Basra, and Nineveh were included in the survey. Policies and strategies aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods, including through the growth of MSMEs, can be informed by the study’s evidence base. Using up-to-date, trustworthy, and pertinent market data, it is intended to construct a comprehensive analysis of MSMEs’ structures, trends, business dynamics, challenges, and opportunities.
In 2023, UNDP developed an action plan and guidelines for the relevant authorities based on data gathered in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning to assist them in developing policies and practical plans to support MSMEs and entrepreneurs and increase their participation in the national economy.
By conducting a qualitative study represented by Focus Groups in the Governorates of Kirkuk in the north, Babil in the center, and Dhi Qar in the south to identify factors that will help align and prioritize the recommendations resulting from the MSME survey based on the critical needs of the remaining governorates, this Focus group study contributed to the continuation of the previously mentioned survey.
