Kurdish politician: The ruling authority in the region stole employees' salaries and withheld their dues.

Luqman Hassan, a member of the Kurdish Takfiri Azadi Movement, revealed on Sunday that employees in the Kurdistan Region have lost around 60 salaries due to what he called the “policies of the ruling authority.”

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Hassan said,

“Employees in the Kurdistan Region were robbed by the ruling authority. Nearly 60 salaries were taken from them — 14 full salaries and 46 lump-sum payments — all under the excuse of compulsory savings.”

He explained that since 2016, bonuses and promotions for government employees have been completely suspended, leaving many workers frustrated and financially strained.

“Many employee entitlements have simply disappeared,” Hassan continued. “No one knows where this money went, and people have lost trust in the system.”

Hassan added that public sector workers in the region have little hope of ever getting back their stolen or withheld salaries. Instead, most now place their hopes on Baghdad and Erbil maintaining the current oil export agreement through SOMO and Türkiye, which remains a key source of revenue for the region.

“The future depends on the stability of the oil agreement,” Hassan said, suggesting that continued cooperation with the federal government could bring financial relief to Kurdish employees who have endured years of hardship.

The salary issue remains one of the most sensitive and long-standing problems in the Kurdistan Region, where delays, deductions, and the compulsory savings policy have affected tens of thousands of government workers for nearly a decade.
