An economist says approving the 2025 budget after the elections will be difficult due to political disagreements.

Economic expert Bassem Jamil Antoine said on Monday that approving Iraq’s 2025 budget schedules after the elections will be difficult because of ongoing political disputes and financial law violations.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Antoine explained that the budget is a key foundation for any country’s financial planning and depends on accurate final accounts. However, he noted that disagreements among political blocs have made it impossible to pass the 2025 schedules or start preparing the 2026 budget.

He added that although the budget process is normally a routine procedure that could be completed in about a month, political conflicts have caused repeated delays and complications.

Antoine emphasized that until these disputes are resolved, progress on Iraq’s upcoming budgets will likely remain stalled.
