Baghdad — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Thursday to review progress on the national electricity collection system, with attendance from the head of the Advisors’ Board, the Deputy Minister of Electricity, senior ministry officials, and other specialists involved in the file.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, received by dinaropinions.com, the meeting examined the current distribution plan and a roadmap to address system bottlenecks. Officials also reviewed a detailed report on energy losses and waste, with a target of reducing current waste levels to 40%, alongside imposing strict legal measures in areas experiencing excessive losses.

The discussion further covered calculations of supplied and metered energy, comparisons with actual collection levels, and a comprehensive review of national electronic collection performance over the past two months, including measurement of the recent surge in collection rates.

Based on the findings, Prime Minister Al-Sudani instructed the Ministry of Electricity to expand the use of electronic payment systems for electricity fee collection—particularly for high-load consumers and the commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors.
