The Government of Iraq has officially signed the UNIDO Country Programme for 2026–2030. The agreement was signed by Minister of Industry Prof. Khalid Battal al-Najm and UNIDO Director-General Gerd Müller during last week’s conference in Riyadh.
This new programme gives Iraq a clear roadmap for the next few years. It supports Iraq’s Vision 2030, the National Industrial Strategy 2024–2030, and the UN Cooperation Framework 2025–2029. The main goal is simple: help Iraq move beyond oil and build a stronger, more diversified industrial economy.
The plan focuses on several key areas:
- Creating more jobs for Iraqis
- Supporting small and medium-sized businesses
- Strengthening food security
- Encouraging green and sustainable growth
To make this happen, the programme will bring in both public and private investments while using UNIDO’s global expertise to support Iraq’s industrial development.
In short, this partnership is designed to help Iraq build a modern, resilient, and diversified economy that can grow for years to come.
