Economist: Talk of rising exchange rate is a media frenzy to serve this group.

Economic researcher Diaa Abdul Karim says the talk going around — in public and in the media — about a rise in the dollar exchange rate is nothing more than noise created to benefit certain money traders.

He told dinaropinions.com that the exchange rate, both at official outlets and in the parallel market, is still basically stable. Yes, there have been small ups and downs, but nothing that counts as an actual change in the rate.

Abdul Karim explained that many people in Iraq are worried because of rumors spreading online and on TV about a possible jump in the dollar price. But he says the truth is different — there is no official move from the government to raise the exchange rate. What people are seeing is simply media hype.

He also said that the government and the Central Bank are the only ones who set the official exchange rate, and there is no sign that they plan to change it now or even when a new government takes charge. The market is stable, and that stability supports keeping the exchange rate exactly where it is.
