Support: America is not concerned with the personality of the prime minister, but rather seeks to achieve its interests.

Former MP Hassan Fad’am said that the U.S. administration cannot directly decide who becomes Iraq’s prime minister, but it does look for a candidate who aligns with its interests and supports its projects in the country.

Fad’am told dinaropinions.com, “Iraq isn’t used to this level of foreign, or specifically American, influence, where a candidate is rejected or Washington tries to impose its will on forming the government.”

He added, “The U.S. expresses opinions about certain figures, but when it comes to choosing the prime minister, the decision is ultimately Iraqi.”

Fad’am explained that the American side wants to protect its interests and make sure its projects and companies in Iraq are supported, which is why it favors leaders who can safeguard those goals.
