$300m Road Projects Launched in Karbala and Najaf

Two major road projects have officially kicked off to boost transportation and ease traffic in the central Euphrates region.

The first project is a 34-kilometre road that will connect Karbala to the main highway network. It includes 14 bridges, including one that crosses the Euphrates River. The total cost is 321 billion dinars — about $245 million.

The second project focuses on upgrading the Kifl–Qasim road in Najaf. It involves adding a new 30-kilometre carriageway, building five overpasses in each direction, and constructing two major interchanges. This project costs 88 billion dinars, or around $67 million.

Both projects are part of a broader plan to support the large number of visitors who travel to the holy cities, improve traffic between Karbala, Najaf, and Babil, and eliminate long-standing bottlenecks. They will also help local industry and agriculture by making transport faster and safer.
