Electricity relies on local fuel after the cessation of Iranian gas supplies.

Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity says it has switched to local fuel as a temporary solution after Iranian gas supplies completely stopped due to emergency conditions.

The move is meant to keep power plants running, protect the national electricity grid, and prevent power cuts across the country.

Ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa Al-Abadi said the response was fast. He explained that the Ministry of Electricity quickly coordinated with the Ministry of Oil to secure local fuel supplies.

“Production is still under control,” Al-Abadi said, adding that the affected power stations have not shut down completely.

He stressed that work is ongoing to supply all power plants and make sure they are fully ready, especially as demand rises during peak periods.

Despite the current emergency, the ministry says its top priority is keeping electricity stable and continuous for citizens and avoiding any disruptions as much as possible.
