MP Mu’in al-Kadhimi of the Badr Bloc said the Coordination Framework will not be influenced by foreign interference when selecting Iraq’s next prime minister, stressing that the decision is purely Iraqi and that the United States will adapt to the political reality on the ground.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Kadhimi said consultations within the Coordination Framework are still ongoing and that no final decision has yet been made regarding the next prime minister. He rejected claims that external pressure is shaping the process, emphasizing that discussions remain internal.
Al-Kadhimi acknowledged that differences of opinion exist within the framework, but clarified that these disagreements stem from the political blocs that make up the alliance, not from outside actors. “Foreign pressures have no role in the options being discussed,” he said.
He added that all proposed candidates are capable of protecting Iraq’s interests, while also maintaining stability in relations with countries that view Iraq’s security as important. According to al-Kadhimi, the United States and other foreign powers ultimately deal with the realities that emerge from Iraq’s political process.
“There is no need to link the prime minister’s selection to international considerations,” he said, reiterating that the decision will be made based on domestic consensus.
