Bitnomial exchange receives CFTC approval to launch prediction market in the U.S.

Bitnomial has just cleared an important regulatory hurdle, and it puts the company in a strong position to launch prediction markets inside the United States.

On January 8, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission confirmed it issued a limited no-action letter that gives Bitnomial permission to move forward with event-based contracts. The approval came from the CFTC’s market oversight and clearing divisions.

So what does this actually mean?

In plain terms, the CFTC said it will not take enforcement action against Bitnomial for specific, narrow exceptions related to swap reporting and recordkeeping rules. This relief only applies to certain types of contracts—mainly binary or limited-range products often called prediction or event contracts.

These contracts are simple by design. They settle based on clear outcomes, like whether a certain event happens or whether a price stays within a set range. Under the no-action letter, Bitnomial can list and clear these contracts without following some of the reporting requirements that normally apply to swaps.

The approval is tightly controlled. It only covers contracts traded on Bitnomial’s own exchange and cleared through its registered clearinghouse. The CFTC also made it clear this approach is not new and follows similar permissions granted to other regulated markets offering comparable products.

Why this matters is simple.

Without this relief, the reporting rules would make it hard to run fast-moving prediction markets in a practical way. Now, Bitnomial has a clear path to launch them while staying inside the U.S. regulatory system.

The contracts still have strict rules. They must be fully collateralized, and Bitnomial must publish trading data and provide records to regulators when asked. Oversight stays in place, but the products can function as intended.

Bitnomial is already a registered contract market and a licensed derivatives clearing organization. This step expands what it can offer, moving beyond futures and options into prediction-style trading.

Prediction markets have grown quickly, but most activity has happened offshore or on lightly regulated platforms. This approval gives traders and institutions a way to access these markets under U.S. supervision instead of relying on unregulated alternatives.

In short, this move brings prediction markets a lot closer to the regulatory mainstream in the U.S., and Bitnomial is now positioned to be one of the first fully compliant players in that space.
