Al-Tamimi: Obstructing oil exports will exacerbate the salary crisis for the region's employees.

Political analyst Qasim al-Tamimi says the Kurdistan Regional Government’s موقف on oil exports could end up hurting itself.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Al-Tamimi said Kurdistan has created a new crisis over oil exports. He believes trying to block exports will backfire, especially since employee salaries in the region depend heavily on oil revenue.

He added that through its recent statements against Baghdad, the Kurdistan Regional Government is trying to gain financial and material benefits, acting like it has the final say over oil exports to Turkey.

Al-Tamimi stressed that Baghdad has the final authority over oil exports from all Iraqi territory. He warned that Kurdistan’s position will only make things more complicated.

He also pointed out that Baghdad is still trying to find ways to export oil to other countries, so it can secure the money needed to keep paying salaries in the coming period.
