Despite the war, total Iranian gas supplies to Iraq have increased.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity said that gas supplies coming from Iran increased significantly over the past week.

According to ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa, the amount of Iranian gas sent to Iraq rose from 6 million cubic meters to 18 million cubic meters during the week.

Speaking to Reuters, Moussa explained that the extra gas was mainly sent to help meet electricity needs in Iraq’s southern regions.

Earlier this month, most provinces in Iraq experienced a major electricity blackout. Officials described it as a shutdown caused by heavy pressure on the power grid.

At the time, the Ministry of Electricity said the outage was a technical issue linked to a sudden drop in gas supplies to the Rumaila Gas Power Plant, which affected electricity production.

In short, the increase in Iranian gas supplies is expected to help stabilize power generation, especially in southern parts of the country.
