Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Friday that Iran had plans to dominate the Middle East, but claimed the U.S. had already weakened those ambitions.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iran wanted full control of the region but insisted the U.S. had dealt a heavy blow to those plans.
When asked about Mojtaba Khamenei, Trump said he believes he is “still alive in one way or another.”
Trump also claimed that the damage to Iran had been massive. He described it as “total destruction that no other country has ever witnessed,” although he said Iran still has some remaining capabilities.
He encouraged commercial ships to keep sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, saying they should show courage when crossing the strategic waterway.
Trump argued that Iran no longer poses a serious threat at sea after what he described as the destruction of its fleet.
He again repeated his claim that Iran had been planning to take full control of the Middle East.
