Iraqi MP Mukhtar Al-Moussawi said there are growing disagreements inside the government and among political groups, especially over the continued targeting of Popular Mobilization Forces bases.
He said these attacks are happening almost daily and are causing heavy losses, raising serious questions about how fighters who once defended Iraq against ISIS are now being treated.
Al-Moussawi stressed that PMF members are Iraqis and a key part of the country’s defense system. He said it’s unacceptable that they are being targeted and killed after everything they have done for the country.
He also criticized the government’s response, saying statements of condemnation are not enough. According to him, the government needs to take real action to stop the attacks, while Parliament must step in and ensure the PMF is protected.
He added that there are diplomatic ways to deal with the situation, but warned that relying only on words without real action will not solve the problem.
