A deputy determines the amount of money recovered from corruption mafias

On Sunday, Representative Basem Khashan announced that corruption mafias in the country have been busted and a significant amount of money has been recovered.

Khashan, in an interview with Al-Ma’louma, stated that corruption within Iraqi state institutions is widespread and has infiltrated multiple sectors. He further highlighted that the amount of money recovered from corrupt mafias is minimal when compared to the massive sums of looted money, which reaches alarming figures.

He remarked that recovering money, particularly that of those who have fled the country, is complicated due to a lack of cooperation from other countries and uncertainty about the money’s whereabouts. He emphasized that corruption remains a significant threat to the state structure and must be combated transparently, without any interference from external parties.

“It is crucial to relocate all the files from the Integrity Commission and other oversight bodies and work towards concluding the investigations and disclosing the outcomes to the public,” he stated. He emphasized that a country struggling with corruption at higher echelons cannot be developed.

State institutions are plagued by corruption and waste in unproductive projects.
