MP Mohammed al-Bayati said on Monday that extending the parliamentary session was necessary to complete five important laws, especially the 2027 budget bill. He said the budget is expected to reach the parliamentary Finance Committee in the coming period.
Al-Bayati explained that Parliament approved the extension by majority vote during Sunday’s session. He said the decision was made to speed up work on the five laws, with the 2027 budget among the most important.
He added that the budget will affect the rights and interests of many groups across society. Extending the session will give Parliament more time to complete the first and second readings of the remaining laws while waiting for the government to submit the budget.
Al-Bayati said the extension is intended to allow more time for discussion and approval of legislation that affects citizens’ lives and addresses the needs of the Iraqi people, including the 2027 budget once it reaches Parliament.
