Iraqi MP Iyad al-Jubouri has strongly rejected any attempts to force citizens out of their homes or residential areas under the pretext of carrying out investment projects.
In a statement on Monday, al-Jubouri said that displacing residents or pressuring them to leave their communities for any reason is unacceptable and should not be allowed to happen.
He stressed that investment and development projects are important, but they must be implemented within the law and in a way that protects the rights, property, and interests of local residents.
According to al-Jubouri, economic development should not come at the expense of citizens who have lived in their areas for years. He emphasized that any project must respect legal procedures and ensure that affected residents are treated fairly.
The lawmaker also held the Baghdad Agriculture Directorate and the National Investment Authority fully responsible for any actions that could harm residents or violate their legal rights during the implementation of investment projects.
He said Parliament will closely monitor the issue to ensure that investment opportunities are not used as a justification for removing residents, violating property rights, or changing the demographic makeup of specific areas.
Al-Jubouri emphasized that protecting citizens and safeguarding their rights must remain a top priority under all circumstances.
He concluded by saying that development and investment should serve the public interest while respecting the rights of communities, and that no project should move forward if it results in unfair treatment or forced displacement of residents.
