Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani expressed appreciation for Iran’s consistent gas and electricity supply to Iraq despite financial dues exceeding 11 billion euros.
During the Russian Energy Week, Prime Minister al-Sudani delivered a speech attended by dozens of government representatives and energy companies worldwide. President Vladimir Putin hosted the assembly.
The prime minister announced that high demand has led to new gas-related investment projects in Iraq, particularly during the sweltering summer.
Iran has played a significant role in addressing needs despite over 11 billion euros in unpaid debts.
Al-Sudani stated Iraq’s potential as a global supplier, reiterating its commitment to agreements with Total and other firms from the UAE and China.
The spokesperson said that this strategic approach aims to establish a self-sustained gas supply within 3 to 5 years, reducing reliance on imports.
Al-Sudani announced that his government had launched the sixth licensing round for natural gas exploration in over ten promising gas exploration sites.
